Massive Sea Urchins Found on Mitlenatch

Two MIST volunteers were able to kayak at low tide, which revealed massive red and purple sea urchins the size of small soccer balls as well as ochre sea stars as big as dinner plates everywhere along with bright red blood stars. The Virginia rails were heard across the island and they spotted a rock sandpiper. A pleasant surprise was the lack of garbage on the beaches, possibly related to the clean up conducted by tourism operators as part of the BC pandemic recovery plan.
